Periodontal Health

Gum Disease "Periodontal Disease".  Chances are that someone mentioned that you have "G" Gum Disease. Most adults have some form of gum disease ranging from mild gum redness (gingivitis) to soft tissue damage with substantial bone loss supporting the teeth (advanced periodontal disease). There are many factors that may contribute to the prevalence of periodontal disease.  A lot of it has to do with physical health as well as contributory risk factors such as:

  • Smoking
  • Other illnessess -- immunocompromised health (auto-immune diseases, treatments for cancer, AIDS)
  • Medications -- some reduce the flow of saliva and others cause increased growth of gingival tissue
  • Diabetes -- susceptibility to development of infection
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Genetic susceptibility

Dr. Huang and her team will be able to evaluate your periodontal health. The past effects of gum disease that caused damage and deterioration to soft tissue and bone tissues are irreversible.
